Dieses war schwer beladen und drohte auf See unter zu gehen. Die Leute auf dem Schiff begriffen, dass ihnen nur zwei Möglichkeiten offenstanden. Entweder sie würden alle untergehen, oder sie mussten einige Personen und Lasten über Bord werfen, damit das Schiff leichter würde. Sie ließen das Los entscheiden und es fiel auf Yunus. Er wurde ins Meer geworfen und dann von einem großen Fisch verschlungen, blieb aber unverletzt. Er bereute jetzt, dass er mit seinen Volk keine Geduld gehabt hatte. Er betete zu Allah mit den Worten: „Es gibt keinen Gott außer Dir! Preis sei Dir! Gewiss, ich gehöre zu den Ungerechten." Allah der Erhabene befahl dem Fisch, Yunus frei zu geben. Er gelangte an Land und als er wieder bei Kräften war, kehrte er zu seinem Volk zurück und fuhr mit der Da'wa fort. Diese Begebenheit wird im Quran wie folgt beschrieben: „Und (auch) dem Mann mit dem Fisch (d.h. Yunus), als er erzürnt wegging. Da meinte er, Wir würden ihm nicht (den Lebensunterhalt) bemessen. Dann rief er in den Finsternissen: „Es gibt keinen Gott außer Dir! Preis sei Dir (arab.: subhanak)! Gewiss, ich gehöre zu den Ungerechten." * Da erhörten Wir ihn und erretteten ihn aus dem Kummer. So retten Wir die Gläubigen." (Quran 21:87,88) „Auch Yunus gehörte wahrlich zu den Gesandten. Als er zum vollbeladenen Schiff davonlief. Er warf Lose und wurde einer der Unterlegenen. . Da verschlang ihn der (große) Fisch , während er sich Tadel zugezogen hatte. Abu Huraira رضى الله عنه berichtete: Der Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم sagte: Am Tage der Auferstehung wird Ibrahim (Abraham) seine Vater Azar treffen, und Azars Gesicht wird düster und mit Staub bedeckt sein. Da wird Ibrahim zu ihm sagen: "Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, dass du meinen Befehl nicht mißachten sollst?" Da wird sein Vater sagen: "Heute werde ich dir nicht ungehorsam sein." Da wird Ibrahim sagen: "Oh mein Herr! Du hast mir versprochen, mir keine Schande zu geben am Tage der Auferstehung. Welche Schande ist größer, als dass ich mich für meinen Vater schämen muss?" Da wird Allah ta'ala sagen: "Wahrlich, ich habe das Paradies für die Ungläubigen verboten." Dann wird er sagen: "Oh Ibrahim, sieh was unter deinen Füßen ist." Dann wird er schauen und dann wird er (seinen Vater als) ein blutverschmiertes Dhabh (Tier) sehen.
